CRAFTivities- Buterflies & Bugs

Butterflies and Bugs

**********************************
Scripture/Story:

2 Cor 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"

Talking about how butterflies represent re-birth and new life.

We watched Starfall

LETTER B and reviewed A.

BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE -In Pasta
Activity Cost $ 3-4
if you have to buy pasta

TOOLS: Paper Plate, real or cut leaves, glue, bowtie pasta, corkscrew pasta, Lg shell pasta, Lima or white beans (or whatever you have), Marker

Use the marker to make a cross to separate the plate in to 4 parts.
Label each part: 1. Eggs 2. Caterpillar 3.Cocoon 4.Butterfly
Let your little one cut (you you cut) and glue the leaves and other elements onto plate.
I placed the glue down so he could see where to glue the items.

HAND & FINGERPRINT BUTTERFLIES AND CATERPILLARS
Activity Cost: $0

Tools: Paper, paint, marker

Here's a photo of the finished product of this and the next 2 projects. I didn't get any while we made the hand print one for obvious reasons. I used them as a Mother's Day gift from Zorro.

***********************************
CATERPILLAR CLIPS
Activity Cost $3 or less

TOOLS: Pom Poms, Clips, glue, googly eyes
Mommy Part:hot glue & magnets.

I used old magnets that you get for free from business that you would really never use. I just cut them into the shape I needed then hot glued them on

Zorro glued on the pom poms then the googly eyes. DONE!

BUTTERFLY CLIPS
Activity Cost $3 or less

TOOLS: pom pom, googly eyes, cup cake paper, pipe cleaner
Mommy Part: hot glue and Re-used magnets

I cut the cupcake paper on either side leaving a small part in the middle connected then Zorro clipped it in. He also clipped in 1/2 of a pipe cleaner then I twisted it and curled the antennas. He glued on the pom pom and eyes.

BOOK PICNIC

I got this idea form No Time For Flash Cards.
I try to make Mondays our library day and I'd like to add the picnic to the day as well indoor or outdoor. It's a great way to introduce the theme.
For a list of the books we pick out go to BOOK TREE- Butterflies & Bugs.

INSECT HIDE & SEEK Sensory Tub
Activity Cost: $2
Insects and Insect catcher

TOOLS: Tub, Dirt (or rice, beans, sand, etc), bugs, bug catcher (if you want).

**********************************
TP ROLL DRAGONFLY
Activity Cost: $2

TOOLS: TP ROLL, colored construction paper, pipe cleaners, paint crayons or do-a-dot paints, glue, googly eyes, tape, scissors.

PREP: cut wings and paper to cover TP Roll, cut the TP roll in half re-roll (to help get round shape roll around a pen) then tape it.

The TP rolls after cut and taped. Z painting the wings. He also "cut" his own wings.

I helped Z tape the construction paper on the body. I tied the antennas and he glued the eyes on.

ONGOING BLANKET CRAFT
Activity Cost: $2.50

This is the material he picked out for BUTTERFLIES AND BUGS. Bugs won over Butterflies. And the freakish bugs at that, not even the cute whimsy ones. Oh well. He IS a boy after all. Too bad though because the Butterfly fabric was CUTE!

EGG CARTON BUGS

I LOVED the ones that
Preschool Playbook did!! TOOLS: egg carton cut to sizes you need, googly eyes, glue, paint, paint brushes or sponges *We didn't get to this activity but it's prepped and in a bag ready to go when we need bug themed activities or just something fun for later!

BUTTERFLY NATURE CRAFT

I loved this idea from No Time For Flash Cards.
As soon as I saw it, I KNEW we would find a use for the activity. Here is our take on it:

*We didn't get to this activity but it's prepped and in a bag ready to go when we need butterfly themed activities or just something fun for later!

I like the way you set up this post. We will definitely do some of these things. I especially like the life cycle of a butterfly.

I loved the butterfly hand print! I also really like the idea of doing a theme.. Sammy really likes learning all about one thing before moving on to something else.
