This is what Memorial Day is about

Over a year ago Sgt. David Hart was killed in Iraq after he selflessly and willingly gave his life to protect those who served with him.

It was no surprise to me that he would give his life. He was passionate about what he believed, he walked the walk. He loved with his whole heart and he would sacrifice for others without question.

For a time in my life he was the closest person in my life, my best friend. When he told me he wanted to join the Army it was shortly after September 11th. I told him no way. But who was I to influence him?

After he had served his FULL time in the military. He was called back and about a month later at the age of 22 on Jan 8, 2008, he lost his life.

His wife and Family on his return

My heart aches at the loss. My heart still aches, and my mind can't comprehend that he is gone. I can't imagine what this loss is to his family and most especially his wife.

David's wife, Nicole Hart, ever passionate herself has taken up a cause to support young widows. She has turned her grief into love and support for those that need it.
Please check out American Widow Project. See if there is a need you can fill.

Most of all remember that Memorial Day is not about BBQ's and family fun, its about those who gave their lives so we could be free. And don't forget to remember those who lost their loved ones, those people most of all need our love and support on this day.
