Our STAYcation- In Julian, CA -Part 1

I had GRAND plans for this summer vacation. D had just finished his second year in Law School and we were going into the LAST year followed by the BAR the JOB HUNTING in a (not so) FABULOUS job market.

We were going to go to the Yosemite and the Redwoods, Monterey, The Grand Canyon, Solvang, and some nifty other places too! WE WERE TOTALLY going to do it because who knows when we will get another chance.

Well.......... then life happened as it usually does and D decided to take a summer class to make sure he's on track as well as extern this summer (interning for school credits). So by the time all that was done, it left us with 2 weeks of summer vacation bliss.

So here's what we did instead:

We spent to days in the tiny historic mining town of Julian in San Diego.
To save money, we drove the 2 hours there and back each day and then spent our money on the fun stuff!

We went on a mini hike at Cuyamaca Lake

"Mined for Gems" at a Gem Sluice

Panned for "Gold"

AND MORE....
(look out for PART 2...as soon as I find my camera!)

You can bet that I have some CRAFTivities to follow this!
Stay tuned!

I like the photo by the water.
My kids would LOVE to mine for gems. I am so paranoid about my camera that it would never have the opportunity to get lost....my cell phone on the other hand...

This looks similar to a place we went to this summer. Barkerville BC. Gold panning and hiking trails. Glad you had a great time!

I would love to have s staycation, but our families think otherwise. There is so much to see and do in California, we are both pretty lucky in this regard. It looks like you made the right choice and had a lot of fun in the meantime.
